HOPE Collaborative
A Good Idea
Description
The Health for Oakland's People and Environment (HOPE) collaborative was formed by community organizations, institutions, and community residents to improve health and quality of life in Oakland neighborhoods suffering the most from health disparities. The HOPE collaborative works to transform the food and fitness environment in Oakland communities.
The HOPE collaborative consists of 5 action teams: Food Systems; Built Environment; Local Sustainable Economic Development, Youth Action Committee, and Fundraising Committee. The collaborative approaches this work through the consistent use of three overarching strategies: (1) policy; (2) modeling, planning and programming; and (3) capacity building, youth engagement and participatory learning.
